R.I.P Franco Sensi

Today is a day where Italian football fans around the world will take a moment to remember a true legend in Italian football, Franco Sensi. Franco Sensi passed away on August 18 after struggling with an illness for some time.

The Roma owner took over the club in 2000 where he turned around a relegation stricken side to scudetto contenders. Sensi even oversaw many memories with Roma including their 2001 title and triumph's in the Coppa Italia.

Homages where paid to him and his family throughout the country as football officials publicly paid their respects. Thousands of fans stood outside the Basilica di San Lorenzo to pay their respects as well as several coaches, club presidents and past and present football players.

As Totti and Panucci led the carrying of the coffin fans applauded and saluted their hero singing, 'Roma! Roma! Roma.' It was a touching ceremony as Vicenzo Montella read a touching letter, and several players placed flowers for him too.

However, there were several incidences that were disappointing as Massimo Morratti and Adriano Galliani were both jeered at. The Milan vice-president was also on the receiving end of water bottles being thrown at him. Galliani and Sensi always help opposing views...

It is sad in a way that the Romanisti could not control their anger towards Morratti and Galliani as the funeral was not about them but their president, a man who no doubt would not want his fans to be insulting people on the day of his funeral. Funeral's are a time where respect for the deceased should be shown and not violence. It's time for the calcio violence to stop. Afterall this it what Sensi would have wanted it.

Tonight a minute of silence will be held for him, before the Azzurri game this evening against Austria, and the players will also play with a black arm band in commemoration of this footballing legend.

R.I.P Signior Sensi!!
