The Day Is Upon Us

The time has come! The inevitable has come and gone! Milan fans knew this day would eventually come true but no one really wanted it to happen. Milan's number three shirt, their captain, their legend was seen playing his last game today.

As I write this Milan have just finished playing against Fiorentina, where they won 2-0 thanks to goals from Kaka and Alexandre Pato; celebrations are underway for securing a spot in the Champions League however, sadness mixed with joy is on the heart of all Milanisti. As Maldini has finally hung up those famous boots for good.

As the final whistle went the players flocked to Maldini to give him a group hug, which saw the whole Stadium provide the Legend with a standing ovation. It was a touching moment as the respect for the seven times Champions League winner was shown in full force.

I have said it all before and will say it again. No one deserves more credit than Paolo Maldini. He is simply the most loyal and humble gentleman in the world of sports. With some what 24 years of experience under his belt the most coveted player has decided to say his final good-bye from football for good... or for a long time anyway.

There are so many words that can describe his amazing persona but few words can give him justice. His colossal presence on and off the field will be sorely missed, those endless runs up and down the flanks and the time-less tackles will never filled as well as Maldini. Even his brown locks with the piecing blue eyes will not go unnoticed.

Maldini not only partook in the story of Milan, but he created and moulded Milan's story, he is Milan's story. "La tua storia, la vostra gloria" was a sign held by the fans at the stadium today and rightly so. Twenty-four glorious years have past us by with Maldini by our side. But now it's time to make our own story until that number three shirt comes out of the closet again.

Grazie Capitano for all you have given us!
C'e' Solo Un Capitano!!
