Nesta To Be or Not To Be?

The rumours have been present for some time but they are even stronger now as it has been reported that Marcello Lippi will most likely be calling upon Alessandro Nesta to play in Wednesday's friendly against Cameroon.

The ex-Lazio captain retired from international football after the Azzurri's World Cup triumph in Germany in 2006. Nesta spent most of the time in the doctors rooms after he suffered a serious injury to his thigh three games into the tournament. His recent form with Milan has sen him been awarded with endless praise as he remains a wall in the rossoneri's backline.

Forming an amazing partnership with the young Thiago Silva, Nesta has seen himself not only bring back his 25-year old self but he has mentored and nurtured Silva into becoming one of the best defensive prospects out there.

This fantastic form has rightly earned him praise and it is only right that he returns to the national side as Lippi's defensive line has been somewhat "un-italian" of late. Leaking goals, lack of composure and structure definitely leaves a major void to be filled and Nesta is undoubtedly the man for the job.

Though extremely injury prone on the international stage, some may feel this is finally Nesta's time and it is certainly worth the risk taking him to South Africa; should he be willing to join the side. After all no one, besides Cannavaro, can quite offer the experience and expertise at the standard that Nesta can.
