Milan go fourth and help Roma as they beat Inter 2-1

Inter's scudetto celebrations have been brought to an abrupt halt as they lost the derby della Madoninna 2-1 to Milan with goals by Inzaghi and Kaka while Cruz pulled one back for the nerazzurri.

The rossoneri needed to grab maximum points from all their remaining games to stand a chance of qualifying for Europe next season and this win has certainly helped them to grab that much contested for fourth spot.

Carlo Ancelotti's men came into the game two points behind an inform Fiorentina who, at the time, occupied fourth spot and were looking for a win against Cagliari to boost them after their UEFA Cup exit against Rangers.

However, after Fiorentina's hard work all season they didn't get their fairytale ending today unlike Milan. Not only did Milan win the derby, for the first time in 2 years, and grab bragging rights for 6 months, they also helped Roma to close the gap on Inter to three points; a feat that all Milanisti are happy about.

After dominating the first half Milan finally took advantage of their possession and broke through with Pippo Inzaghi, from a Ricky Kaka cross, and later it was Ambrosini who capitalised on Vieira's error to slip the ball to Kaka who slotted it past Julio Cesar. All the Milanisti in awe by their team's showing after a poor season.

But in the last 20 minutes the Via Turati outfit were made to sweat as Julio Cruz reopened the game after a free-kick that left Kalac standing motionless on his line; nevertheless, Milan held on to their slender lead to win possibly the most vital game of the season.

As Milan learnt in Istanbul it ain't over until the fat lady sings and anything can happen to Inter, Roma, Milan and Fiorentina. What a great ending this season has in store...
