Reja Out, Donadoni In

It is a sad day for the Partenopei as they say goodbye to Edy Reja as he was officially let go late last night, seeing Roberto Donadoni brought in a his replacement.

The Azzurri were without a win in nine games, which saw them only take two out of a possible 27 points, which saw Edy Reja out under immense pressure to deliver the goods. Though unfortunately the respected tactician couldn't seem to find a way as the club called him in for crisis talks.

It was announced that Donadoni would replace Reja, which saw him sign a two and a half year contract, his first since his failure with the National team in last year's Euro.

Much is expected of Donadoni as he has the huge task of replacing Reja who had been with the club for five years. His five year spell saw him lift Napoli from Serie C1 all the way through to respectable positions in Serie which saw them have a short spell in this years UEFA Cup.

I feel sorry for Reja and sorry for Napoli. This was the usual knee-jerk which won't do any good.

The Azzurri overachieved in the first half of the season and that set expectation levels too high. Now they have come down to earth but Reja deserved more time after all he had done.

They are comfortably clear of relegation, a decent enough target with the players they have. Reja could have built them up. Donadoni, I fear, will crash and burn.
