Lippi Announces Confed Squad

The Confederations Cup is around the corner and Marcello Lippi has announced the full squad that is due to arrive in South Africa next week. The announcement comes ahead of the this weekend's friendly against Northern Ireland in Pisa and the list hosts some new and exciting names.

Eleven players from the World Cup winning squad are set to come down and that includes Gennaro Gattuso who has only played one league game in 6 months. However, Lippi is ready to take the risk as Gattuso will no doubt prove vital in the Azzurri set-up as well as proving an inspiration to the new youngsters.

Davide Santon is the newest and freshest face added to the team as he prepares to make his Azzurri debut against Northern Ireland on Saturday. The young Interista has proven what a player he is this season, as he helped the nerazzurri win their fourth consecutive Scudetto.

Palombo and Montolivo were also chosen to play in the Confederations Cup as their impressive season with their respective clubs has seen them earn much deserved praise. Another youngster to be incorporated into the set-up is Villareal's Guiseppe Rossi. He will join the likes of Gilardino and Luca Toni upfront.

All in all Lippi has chosen a strong and exciting team that can definitely deliver the goods. There is a good equilibrium between experience and youth which can prove vital for this pre-World Cup tournament.
