Enzo Bearzot Passes Away

On Thursday morning the World of Italian football stood united in which past and present players, coaches, football fans and members of various teams gathered together to pay their respects to the passing of a true legend, Enzo Bearzot.

Like his World Cup winning predecessor Vittorio Pozzo, Bearzot also lead his Azzurri to a World Cup triumph seeing them bring home the trophy in 1982; seeig him win the admiration of all the Italians.

Bearzot was born in the 27 September 1927 in Aiello in the Fruili region of Italy. His playing career was not as successful as his coaching nevertheless the centre-back did spend three successful years with the nerazzurri of Inter before playing with Catania and Torino. Though it was his coaching career that he was most known for.

Taking over the reigns from Fulvio Bernardini in 1977 as head coach, Bearzot managed to drive his side to fourth place in the 1978 World Cup. However it would be the following World Cup where success would come.
Forming a side that breathed nothing but class with the likes of Zoff, Collovati, Scirea, Cabrini, Gentile, Bergomi, Oriali, Conti, Tardelli, Graziani, Rossi, Altobelli, and Antognoni. Beazot managed to bring out the best in each player even relaying on Paolo Rossi who had spent the previous year playing in Serie B football.

Not only did he bring the people a sport and a passion he found a ground in which Italians could finally unite and from then on the dynamics had changed.
It is with great sadness that fans, players, coaches and officials make their way to pay their last respects to this Champion in his own right.

He united a country once before and on Thursday he did it all over again.
As one Champions goes another one is born. RIP Enzo Bearzot
