Genoa and Napoli "back from hell"

Serie A welcomes back two of the Italian footballing giants, after a 6 year (Napoli) and a 12 year (Genoa) absence from top-flight football. Each team won instant promotion as they went on to draw 0-0 in the final game of the Serie B season.

Genoa won instant promotion as they managed to maintain their ten point gap between fourth placed Piacenza, as Piacenza drew 1-1 to Triestina and Genoa drawing 0-0 to Napoli. Their return back to Serie A is welcomed by most calcio fans, as it would be great to see Italy's oldest club return to top flight football after a 12 year absence. The nine times scudetto winners, thought they had won promotion two years ago, until their involvement in a corruption scandal saw them sent down to Serie C1, a fate that tarnished one of the most respected clubs in Italy.
Promotion for Napoli tasted just as sweet, as the club with such a magnificent history eventually returned to Serie A. They got relegated in 2001 and then were demoted further as the club fell bankrupt just three years later. The days of the great Maradona had fallen, and memories faded as the Napoletani struggled to get back up.

The promotion of the genovese and the Napolitani were shared together, as they celebrated promotion in fantastic style. With Juventus, Napoli and Genoa back up, Serie A will look like it's old self again, hosting clubs with fantastic history and the competition will no doubt be good as ever. Italy welcome back more passion, more history, more rivalries it's bound to be a great season.
