Quagliarella leads the way for the Azzurri!

Italy took on Lithuania away in the qualifying rounds for the the 2008 Euro. It was a vital match for the Azzurri as it would help to secure their qualification for the Euro. After a disappointing display against the Faeroe Islands, Italy needed to regain their form that won them the World Cup. They were boosted by the fact that Gianluca Zambrotta returned from injury as well as Massimo Ambrosini.

The Azzurri started off well, and tried to keep control of the game and keep their concentration. They opened the scoring through Fabio Quagliarella, who netted his first goal for the Azzurri, by taking a shot from outside the box, directly in front of goal. There was a moment of panic when Lithuania found a gap in the Azzurri defense and went clean through on goal, only to be denied by a brilliant Buffon.

With a few minutes left to go for the first half, Quagliarella smacked home a volley to secure a 2-0 lead, and a fantastic game for him. The Sampdoria player exploded onto the scene this season, seeing him score 13 goals. His fine performances for Sampdoria has seen him be rewarded with an azzurri debut against Scotland, and in his first start and 3rd game for the Azzurri he netted home two fantastic goals.

The Piemontese has certainly found fine form, and has been followed by many great clubs. If he continues like this, he will certainly be a huge prospect for the future. His sublime ability to create goals, and his great two footed drives, has won over endless admires around Europe.

Italy have certainly found a jewel, and they can smile at the prospect of having him in the team. With the new up and coming strikers, 2010 will certainly be fun for the Azzurri when it comes to offense. Could success be written on the cards for Quaglia-gol?

The second goal was a cracker to really ease the nerves. Of the strikers tried out (Quaglia, Di Natale, Rocchi and Lucarelli) the Samp man looks streets ahead of the others.
