SuperPippo brings back the old Milan

Filippo Inzaghi inspired Milan to a 3-1 win over relegation candidates Cagliari on Saturday evening to bring the World Champions 1 point behind Fiorentina who is set to play Reggina Sunday.

The win was much needed for Carlo Ancelotti's men as they are facing a tough battle to qualify for Europe next season and it couldn't have come at a more vital time in the season. With both Fiorentina and Udinese in scintillating form and having played all the big clubs already Milan have it all to play for as they still have to face Inter, Juventus and Napoli.

The rossoneri will now have to take maximum points from every game to stand a chance of reaching the much contended for fourth spot. The Milanisti are hoping that last night's win will be the turning point in the season with Filippo Inzaghi and Ricky Kaka both back from injury.

Kaka opened the scoring for Milan in the 7th minute with a fine individual strike that left Marco Storari hopeless. The rossoneri continued to dominate the half as they started to look more and more like their old selves again as Pippo Inzaghi headed home an Andrea Pirlo corner to double the lead. Inzaghi was favoured over Alexandre Pato and Alberto Paloschi while Alberto Gilardino sat on the sidelines with an injury.

However, in the second half, Cagliari pulled one back from a Conti free-kick that saw Kalac do-a-Dida and grab the ball in midair only for him to drop it and have it role under his body and into the goal.

Guiseppe Favalli had to be substituted off, due to injury, where he was replaced by Marcos Cafu, who had also returned from injury. Daniele Bonera pushed over to the left-back position and continued to play a solid, hard working game.

Cagliari continued to push forward for the equaliser with Alessandro Matri but it wasn't to be as Inzaghi came back to haunt to Ballardini's men as he scored his second goal of the game after rounding his old teammate Marco Storari.

All in all it was a solid performance by the rossoneri as they are looking more like the Milan of last year as Kaka seems to have over come his injury, Inzaghi is finally scoring after a year of not having scored in Italy and Pirlo seems to look a lot less fatigued.

Now it is time for Milan to prepare for their crunch match against Juventus!
