Chelsea line up potential Italians

Following the departure of Felipe Scolari from Chelsea yesterday evening rumours have been circulating of who will be the next coach to take over the Blues. There has been a host of Italian names that have been consistently rumoured over the past 24 hours; Inter's latest outcast Roberto Mancini, Milan's coach Carlo Ancelotti and Gianfranco Zola of West Ham have all been mentioned.

The latter joined West Ham at the beginning of this season and it is the former Chelsea man's debut in coaching top-flight football. He has so far impressed and managed to find some consistency for the Hammers as they are currently lying in eighth and looking to push for a spot in the UEFA Europa Cup.

Though it is unlikely that the former U21 Azzurri coach will leave his current position, to take over the blues, so late on in the league as he is expected to stay with the Hammers at least until the end of the season.

The bid for Carlo Ancelotti also seems out of reach for Abromivic as he has stated that the only team he would want to coach in the near future would be his old team, Roma. The tactician has started to pick up form with Milan and is looking to try and win the scudetto or the UEFA Cup at least this year.

While Roberto Mancini remains without employment though unlike most unemployed people the former Sampdoria player is still getting paid by Inter. As his contract was called off before its due date and the nerazzurri have been forced to continue to pay his wages until his original contract was due to expire.

Mancini is a possibility for the Blues, but whether he is the right man for the job is still unknown. However, latest reports have suggested that talks with Russia's Guus Hiddink are under way.

Hiddink has been appointed but it seems the club is still keen on Ancelotti. I would be suprised if he went at the end of the season but you never know. Might depend how the respective clubs get on for the rest of the season.
