Deby disaster

Having read the reports and having seen some of the highlights of the derby, anger and disappointment is spread all over. To bare witness to a lame and unenthusiastic rossonero side was heart breaking at least as the failure to convert an opportunity into a goal summed up Milan's title hopes.

Inter were adamant for a victory right from the start though that doesn't justify the fact that Adriano's goal was highly controversial. Adriano had headed the ball that seemed to be going wide off the mark when his hand came in and directed it into the goal; a similar situation that saw Seedorf's goal ruled out against Reggina last weekend.

Both goals were deciding factors in the game and it is only the referees who are to blame. A certain rule has to be implemented that whether a goal is scored via the hand, despite the fact that it has touched a part of the body before, it must be ruled out.

If not, then when it is scored via the hand with it touching the body before it has reached the hand then it is a goal. There can be none of both options. The inconsistency with the referees needs to be ironed out as these decisive goals can have huge impacts on whether a team wins or looses, goes up or down the log, wins the scudetto or gets relegated.

However, despite that goal. Inter put their all into the game with a Milan side who only seemed to have awoken when they found themselves 2-0 down. Ronaldinho's through ball to Jankulovski was world- class which saw Pato score: though the young Brazilian struggled earlier in the game with the slippery surface.

Inzaghi's penalty appeals were waved away allowing for more controversy in the game. Pippo also had a goal correctly ruled out for offside despite his running the whole width of the field in protest of the linesman.

It was a sad day for Milanisti as they saw their title hopes diminish in front of their eyes while Maldini waved good-bye to the fans in his last derby. A thanks to the Inter fans who had a banner which read "For 20 years you were our rival, but in life you were always fair", a quick summary of the man Maldini is.

He will be missed but never forgotten as he prepares for his UEFA Cup bid as well as a last International cap to honour his illustrious career.
