Toni and Bianchi fly high on debuts

On Friday evening the Bundesliga started with reigning champions Stuttgart taking on Shalke 04, which resulted in a 2-2 draw. But it was Bayern who was going to steel the lime-light, after bringing in big names like Toni and Ribery, much was expected from the German heavy weights after their disappointing season last year, and they didn't fail to impress. With goals from two of their new signings in a 3-0 triumph over Hansa Rostock, it left many believing that the old Bayern are back.
Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose where the ones who impressed the most, each of them scoring on their Bundesliga debuts with Bayern. Klose, who scored two yesterday, joined Bayern from rivals Werder Bremen in the summer after months of speculation that he might move to Italy and join newly promoted Juventus, but he decided to stay in Germany and move to Bayern.

Luca Toni, joined Bayern Munich from Fiorentina, he stated if he was going to leave Fiorentina it wouldn't be for an Italian team as he didn't want to help another Serie A team that would compete against Fiorentina. Toni has been in great form in the preseason matches but was dubbed with an injury a few weeks back and speculation of whether or not he would make his debut against Hansa Rostock was in doubt. However, Toni recovered and coach Hitzfeld decided to play Toni from the first whistle, and he didn't look back.

Toni seems to have settled in well along with Klose and Ribery and together they lead a powerful attack.

While in England there was another fellow Italian impressing the fans as Rolando Bianchi also scored on his debut. Bianchi joined Manchester City from Reggina in the summer as he followed in the footsteps of his fellow Italian Bernardo Corradi, Corradi unfortunately seems to have battled with life in England but has stayed on this year.

Bianchi shot to fame last year, with his hatric on the first day of the Serie A season against Palermo where he went on to score 17 goals. He formed one of the most fierce Serie A attacks along side Nicola Amoruso both of them scoring 35 goals between them as they battled against relegation up until the last day due to their calciopoli deductions.

Bianchi has been one of the many reinforcements Sven Goran Eriksson has brought in this summer and early signs have already indicated that Man City fans could be in for a good season after beating West Ham 2-0 yesterday.

In France, Fabio Grosso made his Ligue 1 debut last week already and he was one of the best players that evening, while yesterday Lyon lost to Toulouse in the last minute. Grosso has had steady performances so far with Lyon and one only hopes that the Italy's World Cup hero continues with his fine form.

The Italians have put in some fine performances lately and one can feel that the goals are not going to go away any time soon. And who knows, maybe Azzurri coach Donadoni will give all of them an international call up. Let's hope.

I too am happy. Lucarelli is also doing well, which is good to hear. I can't wait to see how they do later on into the season.
