Milan's year 2007!

For the rossoneri and the Milanisti all around the world it has been a year that will never be forgotten and I shall do a quick recap of what has happened in this fantastic year of 2007.

Milan came into the new year having just had their season turned around by Kaka and Gilardino, both started to find their scoring boots and Milan slowly gained confidence and started to win their matches again.

Ronaldo and Oddo's arrival into the team boosted the rossoneri as they looked to make a fresh new start for the new year, and they did just that. They slowly worked their way up to fourth and managed to pass each round of the Champions League in style.

In May, Maldini and co got their revenge from Istanbul in 2005 after defeating Liverpool 2-1 to become European Champions for the seventh time in their history. The passion and desire the players had to bury their demons from that horrid night on May 25th 2005 was finally avenged.

Milan then took an extra long and much deserved summer break, while Kaka decided not to feature for Brazil in the Coppa America, Ronaldo continued to get fit for the start of the season. Maldini and Gilardino both underwent knee surgery in Belgian.

But before the season was to start Milan had another trophy to win, to prove that they are in fact the true Champions of Europe, they had to beat Sevilla in the European Super Cup. The tournament was over shadowed by the tragic death of Antonio Puerta and both teams played for the Spanish star. The rossoneri over turned their 1-0 deficit to come back and triumph 3-1 in which the win was dedicated to Puerta and his family.

Milan then went onto win the Berlusconi trophy, a trophy of not much significance but it is still a trophy and boasting rights of beating their old rivals Juventus had been longed for.

The season went under away and Milan seemed to struggle. their home form was particularly below par but in it was in the Champions League where the Carlo Ancelotti's men particularly excelled. They grabbed qualification with just one game to go and they topped their group.

However there was little time to procrastinate about their poor league form, Milan had to get onto the plane and head for Japan to take part in the Club World Cup. Just weeks before Ricardo Kaka had been awarded the Bollon d'Or prize for the best European Player.

Milan were automatically placed into the semi-finals of the tournament along with eventual finalists Boca Juniors. Seedorf's goal proved to be the winner as Milan went on to beat Urawa Red Diamonds 1-0 to book their place in the final, where they met Boca Juniors- the team that beat them on penalties in the 2003 final- could Milan have revenge once again?

They sure did! They beat Boca Juniors 4-2 in an exciting final which saw Pippo net a brace, Kaka with a goal and two assists and an unlikely goalscorer in the shape of Alessandro Nesta on the score sheet. Revenge was complete and Milan became World Champions for the 4th time in their history.

Just last night, Kaka was crowned FIFA's World Player of the Year to finish off a fantastic year for the diavoli but it still hasn't ended yet. This weekend Milan will take on their rivals Inter in the Derby della Madonnina; a game that means a lot for the rossoneri.

Can they take revenge for the third time this year and beat Inter?
